Healthy North Charleston

Healthy North Charleston, a community based initiative led by the City of North Charleston and the Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC), is pleased to announce grant funding for 2011 to promote healthy eating, increase physical activity, and reduce tobacco use and exposure.

The funding comes from the Action Communities for Health, Innovation and EnVironmental changE (ACHIEVE) initiative of the National Association of City and County Health Officials (sponsored by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention).

ACHIEVE is designed to enhance local communities’ abilities to develop and implement policy, systems and environmental (PSE) change strategies that help prevent or manage health-risk factors through specific activities that promote healthy eating and physical activity and prevent chronic disease.

Mini-grants are currently available to community organizations and schools within the Healthy North Charleston Service Area.  Funding of up to $1000 will be awarded based on the scope and reach of the proposal.

Applications must be received by April 29, 2011 at 5:00 pm. The project period is from May 30, 2011 to September 30, 2011. Extensions to the service period cannot be accommodated.
