Keep North Charleston Beautiful and Keep Charleston Beautiful sponsor the annual Clean Cities Sweep during the months of March and April. Thousands of volunteers participate each year by planning a cleanup and/or beautification event in their community. Groups that register to participate are eligible for contests and prizes, free project supplies, and a Clean Cities Sweep planning kit.

For 2012, Clean Cities Sweep will be held the week of April 22-29, 2012.  School groups will have their Clean Cities Sweep events during the month of March.

The 2011 Clean Cities Sweep was our most successful year ever with over 132 events held by 54 different groups. We had 14,362 volunteers who donated 26,282 hours for a volunteer value of service of $547,979.70. Over 5,586 bags of litter and debris were removed and replaced by 2,025 flowers and trees. Over 46 miles of roadway were cleaned and beautified and 79 gardens were created or improved. There were 68 different educational events with 7,369 children and young adults in attendance learning about volunteerism and taking care of the environment.
