Keep North Charleston Beautiful implemented the Flowerscape Program on February 14, 2007. On Valentine's Day, fifty red Knock-Out Roses were planted at the intersection of Rivers Avenue and Ashley Phosphate Road. The goal of the Flowerscape Program is to plant colorful gardens in highly traveled locations that will positively impact the North Charleston community.
The program has grown over the past three years so that we now have four Flowerscape locations. Three of the locations are currently sponsored, and there is one Flowerscapes that is available for sponsorship. There are two types of Flowerscapes available. The first type is a Flowerscape that is maintained by a landscape maintenance company. The second type is a Flowerscape that is maintained by a volunteer group. The Flowerscapes that are maintained by contracted labor are those that are on highly traveled roadways. The Flowerscapes that are sponsored by volunteer groups are located in City parks.
Each Flowerscape and its sponsor are recognized by a sign placed within the garden. We work with your group to determine the best location for you to sponsor. Your group will then sign either a volunteer group contract or a landscape maintenance company contract that is valid for one year or until June 30. If you and your group wish to sponsor one of the five remaining Flowerscapes, contact the City of North Charleston Beautification Office at beautification@northcharleston.org or 745-1073.
